What are ClubGRANTS?
ClubGRANTS is a NSW-wide program that supports community wellbeing by funding local projects and services. Category 1 and Category 2 funding is available to community and notforprofit organisations delivering initiatives that align with program priorities and guidelines.
About the Program

• Bermagui Country Club
• Club Bega
• Club Sapphire Merimbula

MEDIA RELEASE
ClubGRANTS Funding Strengthens Rescue Coordination for Marine Rescue Eden
Marine Rescue Eden received $3,000 through the 2025 Bega Valley ClubGRANTS Category 1 program to upgrade essential computer equipment used in its Search and Rescue Coordination Centre.
The funding enabled the purchase of two HP computers and four monitors, replacing ageing equipment that had become slow, unreliable and prone to system delays. The new technology was selected in consultation with Marine Rescue NSW Headquarters IT to ensure it met operational requirements and supported the unit’s rescue coordination responsibilities.
The upgrade comes at a time when increased coastal visitation is placing higher demand on local waterways, making reliable rescue coordination and vessel monitoring essential for community safety.
Marine Rescue Eden operates from its Search and Rescue Coordination Centre overlooking Twofold Bay and provides radio coverage and rescue coordination across the region. The unit supports offshore operations extending to the Victorian border.
The upgraded equipment has improved the reliability and speed of entering vessel movements, reduced system outages and eliminated sound cutouts that previously disrupted radio communications. These improvements support faster response times, more accurate monitoring and a more stable operating environment for volunteers on Radio Watch. The upgrade also enhances service delivery to the boating public across the region.
Marine Rescue Eden is staffed by trained volunteers who provide emergency response, vessel tracking and community safety services. The unit relies on grants and donations to maintain its operational capability, including the technology required to coordinate rescues and monitor vessels. Funding for this project was provided by Eden Sports & Recreation Club as part of the Bega Valley ClubGRANTS Category 1 program.
“The ClubGRANTS support, has made a practical difference to our ability to respond quickly and safely. Reliable technology is essential for coordinating rescues, and this upgrade helps our volunteers continue delivering an important service to the community,” Unit Commander Mr Roger Barson said.
ClubGRANTS is a statewide initiative that provides significant financial support to community organisations each year. Clubs across NSW contribute more than $100 million annually to local projects, with Category 1 funding directed to programs that support low income and disadvantaged community members, including community welfare, social services, community development and health services. In the Bega Valley, ClubGRANTS funding is provided by six registered clubs: Bermagui Country Club, Club Bega, Club Sapphire Merimbula, Eden Sports and Recreation Club, Merimbula RSL and Tura Beach Country Club.
ClubGRANTS Category 1 has recently reopened on 1 March 2026 and remains open for applications until 31 May 2026. Online applications are accepted at https://www.clubgrants.com.au/. For enquiries, please contact BegaValleyClubGRANTS@gmail.com.
